Zinc and Copper: Supplement Deep Dive (2026)

A training for practitioners with Camille Freeman (1.5 NPCE)

March 9 from 5-6:30 pm ET

What you'll learn:

This workshop for practitioners will focus on the roles zinc and copper play in human health, and how/when/whether supplementation is needed. We'll discuss background physiology, dietary sources and bioavailability, interpretation of laboratory tests and functional markers, clinical signs, supplementation strategies (including safe dosing and when to add copper), interactions with medications and common dietary patterns, and special-population considerations.

A recording will be available to everyone who registers, so please sign up even if you can't attend live.

By the end of the session, you'll be able to:

Explain the key mechanisms of zinc and copper absorption, transport, and interactions that determine bioavailability and risk of imbalance.
Identify dietary sources, anti-nutrients (e.g., phytates), and dietary patterns that influence zinc and copper status.
Interpret common laboratory tests (serum zinc, serum copper, ceruloplasmin, CBC) and clinical signs to distinguish zinc deficiency, copper deficiency, and toxicity, including limitations of each marker.
Develop safe supplementation and monitoring plans when necessary.
Address needs of special populations (vegetarians/vegans, GI disease, elderly, etc.) and manage drug–nutrient interactions affecting zinc–copper balance.

Join the Training

You'll receive access to the live session, a recording of the session, slides, an extensive references list, and a quiz/certificate option for those who need continuing education hours.

Meet Camille Freeman, DCN, RH

She/her

Camille has been working with clients as a clinical herbalist and nutritionist since 2003, with a focus on fertility, pregnancy, and menstrual health. Her clinical work is guided by her background in physiology, along with a belief in the power of incremental change: starting small, listening closely, and helping clients make changes that actually last.

A teacher at heart, Camille spent nearly 17 years teaching physiology and pathophysiology at the Maryland University of Integrative Health. One of her strengths is breaking down complex concepts into clear, practical points that clinicians can actually use. She now brings that same approach to Monday Mentoring, her community of practice for herbalists and nutritionists, as well as her continuing-education programs, like this Deep Dive.

Camille holds a doctorate in clinical nutrition from MUIH (now part of Notre Dame of Maryland), along with master’s degrees in herbal medicine (MUIH) and physiology (Georgetown University). She also hosts the podcast In the Clinic with Camille and is the author of Write Better Newsletters: Grow Your 1:1 Practice with Emails People Actually Want to Read
