Supplements for Clients taking GLP-1 RAs: Supplement Deep Dive (2026)

A training for practitioners with Camille Freeman (1.5 NPCE)

November 16 from 5-6:30 pm ET

What you'll learn:

In this class, we’ll look at the practical clinical considerations of supporting clients who are taking GLP-1 receptor agonist medications, including semaglutide, tirzepatide, and related drugs. We’ll briefly review how these medications work and the physiological changes that can accompany reduced appetite, slower gastric emptying, weight loss, and changes in blood sugar regulation. From there, we’ll focus on evidence-informed, realistic strategies to help clients meet nutrition needs, manage common side effects, preserve muscle and bone health, and avoid unnecessary or potentially risky supplement use. We’ll discuss food-first approaches alongside supplements, herbs, lifestyle supports, and important safety considerations, including drug–nutrient and herb–drug interactions. This session is intended for practitioners who want a grounded framework for supporting clients without reinforcing food fear, healthism, or the idea that supplements can/should solve every problem.

A recording will be available to everyone who registers, so please sign up even if you can't attend live.

By the end of the session, you'll be able to:

Explain the basic mechanisms of GLP-1 receptor agonist medications and identify common physiological and nutritional effects relevant to clinical practice.
Assess common nutrition concerns for clients taking GLP-1 RAs, including inadequate energy, protein, fiber, fluid, and micronutrient intake.
Develop practical, individualized food, nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement strategies to help manage common concerns such as nausea, constipation, reduced appetite, and fatigue.
Identify situations where supplements or herbs may be useful, unnecessary, or inappropriate for clients taking GLP-1 RAs.
Recognize key safety issues, including potential herb–drug and supplement–drug interactions, risks related to rapid weight loss, and when referral or coordination with the prescribing clinician is needed.

Meet Camille Freeman, DCN, RH

She/her

Camille has been working with clients as a clinical herbalist and nutritionist since 2003, with a focus on fertility, pregnancy, and menstrual health. Her clinical work is guided by her background in physiology, along with a belief in the power of incremental change: starting small, listening closely, and helping clients make changes that actually last.

A teacher at heart, Camille spent nearly 17 years teaching physiology and pathophysiology at the Maryland University of Integrative Health. One of her strengths is breaking down complex concepts into clear, practical points that clinicians can actually use. She now brings that same approach to Monday Mentoring, her community of practice for herbalists and nutritionists, as well as her continuing-education programs, like this Deep Dive.

Camille holds a doctorate in clinical nutrition from MUIH (now part of Notre Dame of Maryland), along with master’s degrees in herbal medicine (MUIH) and physiology (Georgetown University). She also hosts the podcast In the Clinic with Camille and is the author of Write Better Newsletters: Grow Your 1:1 Practice with Emails People Actually Want to Read.
